Clive Barker, you done freaked me out!

Posted by misterbooks on May 8, 2008

So, I’ve never read Clive Barker, heard ton’s about him, but never picked him up.  Watched Hellraiser though, back in it’s day.  So, being a book addict, I was at B&N a few weeks back, and had an urge to try out some horror.  I am more of a pulp horror person; HP Lovecraft, some campy King stuff ( Cell), etc….  But Mr. Barker popped in my head, so I picked up his Books of Blood collection.

Mini review;  Excellant writing, scary disturbing stuff that you just can’t put down. He is a genius.

Done freaked me out though, so visual, so evil, so real, that I need to high-tail it to fantasy land for a bit.  God I love a good story that sends you reeling, and Mr. Barker has set me spinning.  But now I need to chill out with the knights, dragons, and oh yeah, wizards.  Bilbo never sliced into my psyche like CB did, that little hobbit was much more gentle.  Think I’ll go visit some green hills, and walk through the early morning mist, look for caves with dragons, and hide there, where it’s safe….

Peace

I got Greybeards attention with one of my posts, and I read about his Grandma and saw your comment, traced it back and felt the need to say that I also read everything Lovecraft wrote and think he is the master of Horror. My other favorite books off the top of my head are Hobbit/LOR, Sharpes Series (Bernard Cornwall), The Clan of the Cave Bear series and the Recluse Series by L E Modesitt Jr. I don’t blog on books at this time, and ofter think I should read more and blog less?
